EyeSouth Partners, an Atlanta-based eye care management services organization, has acquired the Sunvera Group, expanding its footprint across the Great Lakes region. The transaction adds 15 practices and four ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) in Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, bringing EyeSouth’s national network to 64 practices, 265 locations, and 26 ASCs across 14 states. Founded in 2018 in Birmingham, MI, Sunvera has built a platform of high-performing ophthalmic and optometric providers, including subspecialists in retina, glaucoma, oculoplastics, and cornea. The group expanded into Ohio in 2021 and Pennsylvania in 2022.
EyeSouth CEO Rex Adams called the acquisition a “transformative milestone” that will expand capabilities and enhance patient care. "Adding Sunvera to the EyeSouth network brings together two leading eyecare management services organizations in a partnership that will expand our capabilities and footprint,” Adams added. Nate Kleinfeldt, a founding physician of Sunvera, commented: “We have been impressed with EyeSouth’s operational model that prioritizes clinical autonomy for the doctors embedded into a scalable business infrastructure built for the long run.”
The companies also noted the value of EyeSouth’s experience in managing ASCs, which they believe will strengthen Sunvera’s surgical centers, including the TruVista Surgery Center in Michigan.
EyeSouth Partners’ Chief Medical Officer, Chris Albanis, said: “EyeSouth’s vision remains being the leading provider of medical and surgical eye care services with a focus on exceptional patient care and personal service. Our partnership with Sunvera Group is another step forward in pursuit of this vision, as we continue to partner with well-respected ophthalmic practices and doctors across the country.”
