Imaging category
The overall winner of the imaging category was Kasi Sandhanam from the Singapore National Eye Centre, Singapore, with an outstanding entry captured on a Haag-Streit BX 900. The composite winning image, which displayed persistent pupillary membrane, stood out for both technical precision and artistic presentation.

Juror Jacqui Kenyon praised the submission: “Together, these three images highlight the photographer’s impressive skill in slit lamp techniques.” Kasi receives a digital voucher worth 1,500 CHF and will be featured in a leading ophthalmic journal. Second place was awarded to James Gilman of JPG Imaging LLC, USA, who submitted a striking image of a subluxated lens. James wins a digital voucher worth 1,000 CHF and a trophy. Third place went to Angela Chappell, Ophthalmology Department, Flinders Medical Centre, Australia, for an image of penetrating keratoplasty post-fungal infection. Angela receives a digital voucher worth 750 CHF and a trophy.

Video category The overall winner of the video category was Augusto Paranhos Jr, Forno e Paranhos Oftalmologia, São Paulo, Brazil, with an entry captured on the Haag-Streit BQ 900 slit lamp with the Imaging Module 910 3D. His videos of a Seidel test and a perilimbal aqueous vein demonstrated superb quality and stability. Augusto wins a digital voucher worth 1,500 CHF and a trophy. Juror Jesús Conejero remarked, “This is a great example of what 3D photography and videography can achieve with the slit lamp. Results like this inspire us to dream of the many possibilities this technique can offer.”

Competition overview Now in its seventh year, the competition once again attracted hundreds of entries from 32 countries worldwide.

Judge Marc Curchod noted, "The choice was particularly difficult this year due to the large quantity and superior quality of the images, which were even better than in previous years."

The judging panel combined expertise from both ophthalmology and professional imaging, and included: professional photographer Marc Curchod (Swiss Visio Lausanne), ophthalmologist Jesús Conejero (Hospital de Mérida, Spain), imaging specialist Cynthia VandenHoven (FOPS), medical photographer and Haag-Streit product expert Jacqui Kenyon, and seasoned slit lamp imaging specialist Marcel Meyer.

All submissions were assessed for image quality, technical execution, and disease interest.

The shortlisted images (in non-ranked order) are as follows: Rob Hancock, Wirral University Teaching Hospitals, UK: Iris angiography – iris vascular tufts Yang Zhang, Beijing Institute of Ophthalmology, Beijing Tongren Hospital, China: Emulsified silicone oil into the anterior chamber Kasi Sandhanam, Singapore National Eye Centre, Singapore: Anterior capsular cataract Yang Zhang, Beijing Institute of Ophthalmology, Beijing Tongren Hospital, China: Congenital membranous substance on the endothelium Abhidip Biswas, Disha Eye Hospitals, India: Rosette cataract Hoang Nguyen, UCHealth Sue Anschutz-Rodgers Eye Center, USA: Cornea folds Sean Grout, CPMC Ophthalmology Department, USA: Rhopressa honeycomb edema.

Jacqui Kenyon added, “Choosing the winners this year was a real challenge! The quantity and quality of the submissions were incredible, which made my job both exciting and difficult. Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to every entrant for contributing to such a vibrant global community of slit lamp photographers.”
