Johnson & Johnson has launched a new product for astigmatic patients in UK and Ireland.

ACUVUE® OASYS MAX 1-Day Contact Lenses for Astigmatism is the first contact lens to optimize toric design according to cylinder power to deliver on the complex needs of astigmatic patients.

Astigmatism affects about half of patients in at least one eye, making it one of the most common vision conditions. While a variety of contact lens options exist for astigmatic patients, many still face challenges – with one in four discontinuing lens wear in the first year due to issues such as blurred or poor vision and discomfort.

With heavy digital device usage leading to digital eye strain and dry eye symptoms, there is a need for design interventions focused on helping to preserve ocular surface health and associated well-being. ACUVUE® OASYS MAX 1-Day Contact Lenses for Astigmatism is said to offer optimal performance across the cylinder range for exceptional clarity and comfort, intended to deliver a personalized fit based on the amount of astigmatism.

The lens offers cylinder optimized eyelid stabilized design, Tearstable™ Technology for optimized wetting distribution and prolonged tear film stability, and Optiblue™ Light Filter to filter 60% of blue-violet light and minimize light scatter.

"Many of my patients with astigmatism struggle with finding a contact lens that works for them, with existing options not addressing their needs – often having to choose between comfort and stability," said Preete Kumar, Professional Affairs Consultant at Johnson & Johnson. "This new innovation from ACUVUE® offers tailored solutions based on the degree of a patient’s astigmatism, allowing me to meet my patients’ needs without compromise."
