Oertli Instrumente AG (Berneck, Switzerland) has announced the commercial launch of its new surgical platform, the OS 4 Up™ for cataract and vitreoretinal surgery.
With the OS 4 Up, Oertli "combines physics and fluidics, transforming precision into tangible comfort enabling surgeons and OR teams to focus on what matters every day: enjoying surgery," according to a company's press statement.
The development of the OS 4 Up™ is focused on users’ requirements and needs in their everyday surgical practice. One of the technological highlights is the newly developed phaco modulation. "Phaco Assisted Cataract Surgery (PACS) expands on classic phacoemulsification by incorporating adaptive energy delivery," the company states. It detects resistance at the phaco tip caused by dense lens material and adjusts the energy supply in real time. This maintains a constant longitudinal movement of the tip, regardless of lens density. This enables surgeons to work precisely in a controlled and efficient manner, under calm chamber conditions.
The OS 4 Up offers three types of infusion: in addition to passive and active infusion, dynamic infusion is now available to compensates for intraocular pressure fluctuations. "This allows surgeons to select IOP settings close to physiological levels, while intraocular conditions remain stable even at high flow and vacuum settings."
“For us, the OS4 Up is much more than a technological upgrade – it embodies the essence of what Oertli stands for," says Thomas Bosshard, Co-CEO of Oertli Instrumente AG. It "runs precisely, reliably and with uncompromising performance. Above all, however, it was developed with one clear idea in mind: joy. Surgeons and surgical teams spend countless hours in the operating theatre – these should feel intuitive, safe and, wherever possible, joyful. The OS 4 Up is the result of our long-standing proximity to users and our genuine understanding of what matters in the operating theater."
