ASCRS 2026: Cassini and Leica Explore Integrated Imaging Workflow for Cataract Surgery

Live demos spotlight link between preoperative diagnostics and intraoperative visualization following MDR clearance

Cassini Technologies and Leica Microsystems are using this year's ASCRS Annual Meeting (Washington DC, Aril 10-13) to showcase a new collaboration aimed at linking preoperative diagnostics with intraoperative visualization in cataract surgery.

The move follows MDR approval of the Cassini Guidance System, which projects preoperative reference data into the surgical field as digital overlays for alignment and tracking. The system is designed to maintain diagnostic orientation throughout the procedure, potentially supporting greater consistency between planning and execution.

At ASCRS, the companies plan to demonstrate the integrated setup live, combining Cassini’s guidance platform with Leica’s Proveo 8x surgical microscope. The demos are intended to give surgeons a closer look at how digital overlays function in a simulated operating environment and how the technologies fit into existing workflows.

The collaboration also reflects a broader push toward more connected surgical ecosystems. Cassini’s “open platform” approach, in particular, signals an emphasis on interoperability rather than closed systems, allowing surgeons to integrate guidance tools alongside their preferred equipment.

Both companies will maintain an active presence on the exhibition floor, where they are expected to engage attendees in discussions around digital visualization, workflow integration, and the evolving role of intraoperative guidance in cataract surgery.

The technologies will be presented as part of industry exhibits and are not affiliated with the official ASCRS scientific program.
