Haag-Streit (Köniz, Switzerland) has announced the global launch of the METIS 3D Digital Heads-Up Module (METIS HU). This follows its US debut at the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) meeting in October 2025.
METIS HU expands Haag-Streit’s METIS 900 ophthalmic microscope with an integrated digital 3D visualization platform. Incorporating advanced 3D 4K camera technology, METIS HU combines a 55” 3D 4K monitor with a compact floor stand to maximize clinical working space. By replacing traditional eyepieces with a heads-up view, surgeons benefit from better visualization, improved ergonomics, enhanced teaching opportunities, and a flexible digital pathway.
The module's high image resolution, combined with a large 3D display, "delivers a greater depth of field, together with a 3D stereo 4K camera that can constantly adapt to light conditions. This results in enhanced vision, facilitating more accurate manipulation of delicate intraocular structures. And by allowing the surgeon to sit in an upright position and gain a clear view to the screen without excessive head movements, METIS HU can reduce the neck and back strain that can occur when using traditional oculars for lengthy periods."
METIS HU also offers features such as a motorized glaucoma tilt, digital quick zoom, an integrated image inverter, and image-optimizing filters.
Mike Luley, Director of Global Strategy and Business Development, Visualization at Haag-Streit, said: "We are thrilled to bring METIS HU to the global market. This launch continues our commitment to innovation by providing surgeons with a modern, connectivity-focused platform with a simple pathway to HU technology – without losing any of the functionality that they trust.”
Over the next three months, Haag-Streit will be showcasing METIS HU at the following congresses:
ASCRS: METIS Symposium session, April 10 – 13 (Washington DC, US)
VM Retina Meeting, April 16 – 18 (Munich, Germany)
DOC, June 18 – 20 (Nuremberg, Germany)
WOC, June 26 – 29 (Prague, Czech Republic)
TVRS, June 29 – July 4 (Thessaloniki, Greece).
