Balance Ophthalmics names Norbert Lowe as chief commercial officer ahead of launch of new glaucoma device

Balance Ophthalmics has appointed veteran ophthalmic and medical technology executive Norbert Lowe as Chief Commercial Officer as the company prepares for the planned Q4 2026 commercial debut of its FSYX Ocular Pressure Adjusting Pump.

The South Dakota-based medical device company said Lowe will lead commercial strategy and execution ahead of wider availability of FSYX, a prescription-only, non-invasive therapy designed to lower intraocular pressure during sleep in adults with open-angle glaucoma. The appointment follows FDA 510(k) clearance of the wireless-enabled next-generation FSYX system and comes as Balance seeks to expand awareness and adoption of the technology.

Lowe brings more than three decades of leadership experience across ophthalmic devices, pharmaceuticals, and medical technology. He most recently served as senior vice president of commercial operations at Eyenovia, and previously held sales and marketing leadership roles at Aerie Pharmaceuticals, Carl Zeiss Meditec, AcuFocus and other healthcare companies.

FSYX combines pressure-modulating goggles with a compact pump that applies gentle negative pressure to the eyes while patients sleep. According to the company, 12 clinical studies involving more than 600 eyes showed a 39% mean reduction in nighttime eye pressure, with no device-related serious adverse events reported. The wireless-enabled system also transmits objective patient usage data to prescribing practices, giving clinicians visibility into at-home therapy use.

Chief Executive Seph Jensen commented: “As we prepare for the next phase of growth,[Lowe's] deep ophthalmic expertise, strategic leadership and track record of building high-performing organizations will be instrumental in helping us establish a new category in glaucoma care and bring FSYX to physicians and patients around the world who need additional treatment options.”

Lowe said the company has an opportunity to address an unmet need in glaucoma management by providing nocturnal intraocular pressure reduction during sleep, when pressure can rise and disease progression may continue.

“I am excited to join Balance at this pivotal stage and help build the commercial capabilities needed to bring this technology to eye care professionals and patients who need it most,” he said. “Our focus will be on executing a thoughtful, scalable commercial strategy that drives physician education, supports clinical adoption, and lays the foundation for long-term growth.”

Balance said it expects the next-generation FSYX OPAP to be available to eye care practices in Q4 2026.
