BVI has formed a European Surgical Leadership Council to strengthen its collaboration with ophthalmic surgeons and support clinical education, product development and market strategy across the region.
The global ophthalmic device company said the new council will serve as an advisory group, providing market insights, clinical practice guidance, and surgical education perspectives from key European markets. The initiative builds on BVI’s existing US Surgical Leadership Council and reflects the company’s broader effort to deepen global partnerships with surgeons.
The inaugural European council includes seven surgeons representing anterior segment, glaucoma and vitreoretinal specialties:
Sheraz Daya (UK)
Daniel Elies (Spain)
Damien Gatinel (France)
Fernando Llovet (Spain)
Radhika Rampat (UK)
Gok Ratnarajan, MD (UK)
Tommaso Rossi (Italy)
BVI said the council will focus on three core areas: strategic market insights, advocacy and education, and clinical and surgical guidance. Through the group, the company aims to better understand regional differences in clinical practice, evolving surgeon needs, and opportunities to support surgical performance and patient care.
Sheraz Daya, a member of the new council, said the initiative would create opportunities for surgeons to exchange insights, share best practices, and contribute to the advancement of ophthalmic care across different healthcare systems.
Andy Chang, Chief Commercial Officer at BVI, said the European Surgical Leadership Council would provide a direct platform for engagement with surgeons across a key market for the company.
“Through these collaborations, we aim to foster the exchange of insights, support ongoing innovation, and gather feedback that informs our approach to clinical education, product development, and market strategy,” he said.
BVI has positioned the council as part of its commitment to working more closely with surgeons in the development and delivery of surgical solutions. The company, which serves surgical teams in more than 90 countries, has a portfolio spanning ophthalmic surgical instruments, intraocular lenses, and next-generation surgical platforms.
The launch underlines the growing role of surgeon advisory groups in shaping device company strategy, particularly as ophthalmic care pathways, surgical techniques, and technology adoption continue to vary across European healthcare systems.
